Today Subaru provided a sneak preview of the G4e concept car, which will be displayed along with the more mature R1e design at the upcoming 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. Details are still a bit sketchy, but the G4e has the largest wheelbase in it's class and you can see it is an attractive four door hatchback design. It also features air conditioning and a super-cool dash. The motor is rated at 65kW and it is powered by a 346V battery pack.
These lithium-ion batteries use vanadium to double the energy capacity compared to a more traditional manganese lithium-ion battery of the same weight. Subaru claims the G4e has improved electrical efficiency as well as a lighter aluminum chassis than the R1e, resulting in up to a 125 mile (200km) range on a single battery charge.
The battery is located under the floor and is reportedly capable of quick-charging via special high-power recharge facilities to 80% full within 15 minutes. A full charge from AC power at home might take up to 8 hours, depending on the discharge amount and power outlet capacity.
